The Christmas Jumper

David came home the other night looking quite pleased with himself. He made me close my eyes before revealing my very own penguin Christmas jumper! We tend to dress up for Christmas and this year’s theme is penguins apparently. Revenge will be mine…

Choo Choo!

When the sun shines you have to seize it! That’s how I feel now that winter is setting in.

So we did seize our sunny Sunday and made our way to Hengistbury Head Nature Reserve one of my favourite places on the planet. Every season it takes on different colours and every season it takes my breath away.

Feeling particularly lazy we soon swapped our country walk for the adorable Noddy train! Isaac loves trains so we bought some local gingerbread & honey ice-cream before climbing on board.

I’ve walked it many a time but there was something quite magical about travelling by train.

The train stopped at Mudeford Spit, a little beach hut village with the sea on either side. Don’t be fooled these are no humble beach huts! In July one of them went on the market for £200,000! Huts aside there is also The Beach Hut Café and an assortment of lovely boats. David and I have dreamt of owning our own boat for years.

The café was buzzing so we wandered through the huts to a quiet stretch of beach on the other side.

David wrote Isaac’s name in the sand and we watched a sailboat in the sun before heading home.

October

What better way to appreciate autumn than to visit my sister Eliza on her farm in Sussex.

Travelling with a tot requires so much extra luggage! This time however I had a trick up my sleeve… Instead of loading our cumbersome high chair into the boot I had invested in a baby on the go booster seat. What a wonderful investment at only £9.31. I now use it every day and there is no going back.

If motherhood has taught me anything it is to have a few of these tricks up your sleeve. Travelling with a little one can be stressful… it can ruin the sleep routine you’ve established, make nap time difficult etc. For my second trick I planned to put his cot in a different room from us so not to disrupt his sleep (or ours for that matter!).

Sure enough we set up the cot in the bathroom next to our room and it worked a treat. We use a Red Kite travel cot in black. Travel cots are notoriously tricky but once we’d learnt the knack this one has served us well.

Before going away for the weekend I bought Isaac a pair of Wellipets Frog Boots. I’ve loved these boots since my sister had a pair in the 80’s! Isaac wants to wear them all the time and LOVED putting them to use in a puddle.

What a beautiful few days spent walking in the country, sitting by the fire, eating homemade focaccia and drinking wine. We also experimented with apple & gin granita which was not a success but had us all in stitches.

Granita!

Isaac got to spend quality time with his cousin cub Rufus who is 9 months old.  Another highlight for him was definitely riding in his uncle’s tractor. He squealed “Tractor!” at least a hundred times driving back to Dorset.

Farewell autumn!

JoJo Maman Bebe

I love JoJo for good quality clothing but with the rate my son is growing I like to look out for a bargain. It is definitely worth checking the JoJo Outlet for a good price. I recently purchased 100% leather slippers for my nephew reduced from £14 to £7.

I also bought this gorgeous top reduced from £15 to £10. Isaac really likes the picture and often points to the boat on his tummy.

Unisex Leggings

Now that winter is setting in I’ve been shopping for toddler jumpers, slippers and all things warm. Although easy enough to pad out my toddler in woolly layers his legs remain cold under trousers alone.

My sister lives on an old farm in the countryside which is often chilly. On visiting I noticed my nephew wearing adorable stripy leggings, finally a solution! The perfect way to ensure my toddler remained both flexible and warm. He now wanders about the house in them and happily naps in them too. If I go out I only have to pull trousers over the top and I know he’s snug.

I chose the drumming fox priced at £2.99 (others cost less!) and you can find them here on Amazon.

Florence & Teddy

Florence & Teddy has just opened in Southbourne, Dorset. Needing a gift for a baby girl due in March I went to take a look.

I particularly like the fact they stock organic and locally made items. Southbourne is by the sea so I thought it fitting to buy this bib with matching shoes.

Beetles & Bugs

If like me you are always on the lookout for imaginative, ethical children’s clothes I’d highly recommend checking out Beetles & Bugs.

Beetles & Bugs is the creation of designer Brigitte Neve who lives in Vienna. Brigitte and I are from the same rural village in Luxembourg where every house belonged to a different nationality. My personal style is heavily influenced by the continent with a real soft spot for Dutch design.

I adore the simplicity of this mackerel print romper and the fact Brigitte steers away from pastel pink and blue!
